The Congressional Budget Office released a report on Monday stating that at least 81 United States military aircraft, including fighter jets and drones, have been lost or damaged during Operation Epic Fury, the U.S. campaign against Iran that began on February 28. The report estimates the value of the losses between $1.9bn and $3.3bn as of August 1.
The aircraft list includes 12 F-15E Strike Eagle jets, one F-35A Lightning II, seven KC-135 Stratotanker refuellers, and 45 MQ-9 Reaper drones. The report also notes that the war has cost roughly $38bn to date, with an additional month of conflict projected to add $2bn to $3bn depending on intensity.
The Pentagon said it had “nothing further to provide” in response to a query about the losses and their impact on the department.
