UK Bans Palestine Action

The British government proscribed the group Palestine Action in 2025 under the Terrorism Act. The ban criminalises membership and encouraging others to join the organisation.

Arrests of Protesters

Since the ban, more than 3,000 people have been detained for supporting the group. Police arrested Claire, a 52-year-old civil servant, under Sections 11 and 12 of the Terrorism Act. She faces a 14-year prison sentence. Marji, 70, was also arrested in Westminster under Section 12 and is awaiting charges.

Police Warning and Recent Incidents

The Metropolitan Police warned pro-Palestine demonstrators against rallying on the third anniversary of the October 7 attacks. Five people were arrested outside the Board of Deputies of British Jews for inciting racial hatred and chanting slogans calling for an Intifada.

Context of the Conflict

The article notes that Israel’s bombardment of Gaza since October 7, 2023, has killed more than 74,000 people and devastated the territory. Britons have protested, calling for the UK to cease arms sales to Israel and cut diplomatic ties.
