Ukraine strikes Yandex data centre again

Ukraine carried out a drone strike on a Yandex data centre near Moscow, the third such attack on the company’s sites this week. Yandex, described as “Russia’s Google”, reported that the facility in Vladimir was damaged and that operations had been “completely suspended”.

Context of the attacks

Earlier in the week, Yandex said two of its five data centres were hit in Ukrainian strikes, one in Sasovo on Thursday and another in Kaluga on Friday. The company noted that its services were disrupted and that it was uncertain when connectivity would be restored.

Political reactions

President Donald Trump warned Ukraine to stop attacking Russian oil refineries, saying the country should “damn well stop” such strikes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded on X, stating that any de-escalation steps must be reciprocal and backed by real guarantees. He also criticized a new US-Russia diesel deal, prompting Trump to comment that Ukraine needed a new president.

Civilian impact

Russian strikes on Ukraine over the weekend caused civilian casualties, with six people injured in Dnipropetrovsk and at least 20 killed in Zaporizhzhia, including four children, according to local officials.
